Dartmoor
& the South Hams
We
began at Prawle Point with singing Cirl Buntings and a spectacular coast
walk with Rock Pipit, Stonechat, Wheatear, Skylark, Linnets galore and
lines of Gannets sailing close inshore. Nearby Slapton Ley produced Common
Sandpiper, bathing Kittiwakes, a swarm of Swifts, Swallows and House
Martins and eventually, shy Cetti's Warbler. Dartmoor came up trumps with
ace views of Cuckoo, Whinchat and singing Ring Ouzel, while the Bovey
Valley gave us posing Grey Wagtail and Dipper, followed by cracking views
of Wood Warbler and smart male Redstart and Pied Flycatcher, making a
creditable 75. A quality weekend from start to finish.
