Dorset
Coast & Martin Down
On Brownsea Island we enjoyed intimate views of family life tern
style, with hundreds of Common and Sandwich Terns right under our noses,
plus a Spoonbill, cute little Red Squirrels and a fantastic aerial
display by a Hobby, hawking dragonflies, also at close range. Nearby
Arne produced cracking views in the scope of Dartford Warblers, right on
cue, along with herds of Sika Deer. Next day on Martin Down, Skylarks
galore entertained us, among a profusion of wildflowers and butterflies.
Other good scope sightings here included Stonechat, Whitethroat,
Yellowhammer, and very handsome Turtle Dove. Two days of brilliant
sunshine with birding to match.
