Slimbridge & Chew Valley

Not surprisingly wildfowl featured strongly on the ticklist with 2 swans, 6 geese and 15 species of duck out of a total count of 77 species. Besides all these birds in big flocks, one of the highlights was the Water Rail lured into the open right under our noses by a recording of its call. To see such a normally  secretive bird for so long was a real treat.

As we left Slimbridge for home, hundreds of thousands of Starlings wheeled in an irritable cloud against the darkening sky. What a finale to a great birding weekend.
