Our
"guaranteed Black Grouse" were like searching for Gorillas in
the mist. Tantalisingly audible, but frustratingly invisible, it was late
on our second dawn raid before the cursed fog slowly lifted, revealing at
least a dozen Blackcocks, splendidly strutting their stuff. A good result.
Other star sightings included Red Kite, handsome Wheatears, colossal
Ravens, a flock of 200+ Fieldfares, posing Dippers and Red Grouse, and an
amazing eight Ring Ouzels, seen well on a single 'stroll' of the Pennine
Way.
