Yorkshire Coast ~ Skua & Shearwater Cruise

Our Skua and Shearwater cruise rang true with both Arctic and Great Skuas as well as a Sooty Shearwater sitting on the sea at just 30 yards as we sailed by, along with the bonus of umpteen cruising Porpoises. After a seaside lunch, Filey Dams gave super views of Curlew Sandpiper, Snipe and Black-tailed Godwit, while the Brigg produced Purple Sandpiper, Common, Arctic and Sandwich Terns and a lovely polished black drake Common Scoter. To end an excellent day we tracked down a vagrant Greenish Warbler, seen by all in the group.

A fine sunny day at Spurn Head yielded Short-eared Owl, numerous Wheatear, Whinchat and Yellow Wagtail, fantastic close views of a host of waders including Red Knot, Bar-tailed Godwit, Dunlin and Sanderling, with a beautifully marked juvenile Cuckoo to finish.
